Lottery myths, corrected: a five-part series
Every lottery belief on this list can be tested, and each of the five articles tests one with real Lotto 6/45 results or a simulation you can run in your browser. None of them predicts a draw or recommends numbers. The recurring finding is the same: each ticket has identical odds, and what differs is how people choose, how results cluster and how prizes are shared.
- Hot and cold lottery numbers: 1,247 rounds of history against 300 simulated histories. Frequent and absent numbers appear by chance, and neither recent nor missing numbers have a different chance next round.
- The gambler's fallacy: why "it's due" is wrong, with a million-flip coin experiment and exact probabilities of long streaks.
- "Auto wins more often": why two thirds of jackpot winners being auto says nothing about which method is better, and what it does say about clustering.
- The birthday-number trap: numbers up to 31 cover 9% of all combinations; what-if tables show how clustering would change the share you receive, not the odds.
- Is there a "lucky store"?: with identical odds, stores with several jackpots are normal; real tests need sales volume.
The series builds on the winner analysis in How many jackpot winners should each round have? and Same odds, different split risk. Prior reading is not required.
